May 8th
Mount Vernon loop...extended.
When I consider riding a bike to Mount Vernon, there aren't that many options
  1. Via the Mount Vernon / GW Parkway trail.
  2. Via Fort Hunt Rd, which parallels the GW Parkway
  3. Up and over the hill to Sherwood Hall Lane, 100 yards on Richmond Hwy, then up Mount Vernon  Hwy
However there is the way WE went last night...
  • Over Beacon Hill to South Kings Hwy and wheeeee down the big hill to Telegraph Rd.
  • Telegraph Rd to Richmond Hwy then a couple miles alongside 50mph traffic until past Ft Belvoir. (We practiced signals in case we would have to bunny hop over any pot holes on the highway, because we would not have the liberty of moving into the lane of traffic to avoid them)
  • From the West end of Mt Vernon Hwy to Mt Vernon, then back home via the GW Parkway trail.
Distance    24.7 miles
Moving Time    1:36:52
Elevation   993 ft
Max Speed   49.9 mpg
